Installing Wine In Ubuntu

What is Wine?

Wine is an emulation layer that allows you to install and run most Windows programs and games on your Ubuntu PC! It is free to use(as is most everything on Ubuntu) and well supported.

How Do I Get It?

In order to install Wine all you need to do is open up Terminal and type,

sudo apt-get install wine

Run the command and accept the license agreements for the fonts when they appear in the terminal window, when it is finished Wine will be installed and ready to go and you can go ahead and install programs by running the installer.exe files just like in Windows.

What Programs are Compatible?

In order to find out what is compatible with Wine, all you have to do is go to WineHQ and type in the name of the program you want to get info on into the search box in the top right corner. A list will appear with ratings on how well a certain application preforms under wine. The scale starts at Garbage as the worst preforming and goes up to Platinum, which are the best preforming applications.
